where do we come from? what are we? where are we going?: the urban cliff revolution by douglas larson et al

occasionally, in my darker moments, i look around at this urban death-maze/concrete prison we have built for ourselves and wonder what the fuck we were thinking to have made living so very unlivable. well it turns out that we are actually little more than what we have evolved into thanks to the (ongoing) undeniable influence of our natural habitat. i’m not talking some simple nature vs. nurture bullshit here (although that argument certainly does have it’s place…at cocktail parties), what i am saying is that we are our habitat by design and this fantastic little book goes a hell of a long way to prove it. essentially pointing out that everything we live with has indeed been around since our species beginning. and i mean everything; from the buildings we claim to have designed to house us and the food we eat, to the animals we nurture and the plants that grow between the cracks in our sidewalks.

this shit is like some CSI: existentialism edition, ya heard.

and really this painting could/should have very well been the cover and title:

a must read. and give your cat a pat for me.
